After some much needed rest, we were back off to the coast. This time we heaed to the rocky shoreline of Mr. Jo's home. Mr. Jo has been the busiest man that we've met here. He's always been on his phone working. Much to our suprise we showed up at his home where he rents cottages and ATVs!! Mr. Jo showed us a whole new side of himself today!! We jumped on the ATVs and headed around the track. They then lined us up and then we headed down the streets of this seaside vacation town in a line of approx. 15 - 20 ATV's. We were quite a sight of Korean businessmen, Japanese, and Americans!! We passed outdoor restaurants, where you can pick fresh fish and shellfish from tanks, and headed to the rocky beach. We cruised around the beach passing fishermen, some firepits, tall cliffs, and some type of podlike strusctues, being erected. It was quite a treat! Next was a warm bowl of seafood and noodle soup, which was exactly what we needed after the cool weather and quick rainshower. We then headed back to Dangjin for the real tug of war!! We were all blown away by the rest of the day's experience. We were able to take part in the traditional tug of war ceremony and the marrying of the ropes. This ceremony has taken place for over 400/500 years. We approached the parade and were overwelmed by the amount of people that have come together to perform this ceremony. Young and old, local and foreign joined hands to pull the 40 ton rope up to the ceremony. The rope was preceeded by musicians, dancers, flag carriers, and much more. It was an extremely moving experience. As the music pulsated throughout my body, I found myself reflecting on how lucky I am to be here and be a part of this journey...
